SENIOR LEVEL THESIS

Emerald Veil Boutique Hotel | The Nook Centre for Creatives

The following thesis work forms the Change of Use of the current Barrie Transit Terminal to a mixed-use occupancy, while researching various themes of sustainability with a strong focus on sustainable tourism and uplifting local community. Themes of decarbonization, mixed – use occupancies and place preservation are also investigated in order to strengthen the local community economically, socially and most importantly, environmentally.

 

This thesis examines how a sustainable hotel can positively contribute to the success of local, small businesses as well as the local economy to aid in increasing tourism in the area. Utilizing local materials and giving local craftspeople an outlet to showcase their work, contributes immensely to a successful sustainable tourism sector. The addition of de – carbonization, mixed – use occupancies and place preservation aid in strengthening the community economically, socially and most importantly, environmentally.
